Well-Known Angler
Been wanting to add more handy tackle storage for a while, & had my sights set on the bulkhead in front of the port side seat. Not sure of the wisdom of cutting the hole < contacted the always helpful folks at Steiger, go for it. Still not convinced I went there with pictures & got the same, no problem. Contacted the on line site Boatoutfitters.com they have over 140 flush mounted units, all qualits stuff at what looks like a fair price.
A week later I had delivery
The rough opening called for 16" X 16.37" , not trusting my measuring skill with such an important cut, I traced the back of the unit on cardboard & made a templet, taped it to the bulkhead & traced it.
Looked at for a while & made the cut
Unit went in perfect. The instructions called for stainless screws, but I used stainless bolts & lock nuts, backing it up with 1" X 2" strips of aluminum on the back for a little extra strength, & sealed front & back with silicone. This unit came with 5 plano trays, the bottom one larger that the top 4.
