And then..........

longcast

Well-Known Angler
My wife woke up early today so I brought her downstairs and got her settled. Told me OK to leave but going to rain. I said "Nah, just a sprinkle" so off I went. As soon as I got to the boat the heavens opened and rarely stopped. Still hearing the drops on my head. No wonder they tortured folks with the sound of water falling, LOL. Netted some peanuts rather quickly, quite amazed that the net opened so efficiently at the opportune time. 18 fluke, all shorts although a few weeks ago would have been a double limit of some really fat fish! Funny, few were caught on the peanuts, rather on the 1/4 oz jig with the new to me Gulp color - green chrome jerk shads. Each one super spirited, ripping drag in the shallow water. Bite dropped dead so let's move outside as the north wind knocked the ocean down. Funny - wind higher than predicted, yet ocean less than predicted, go figure. Played with some bluefish on plugs until I got bit taking the hooks outs. Couple weeks earlier and it would have become strips for that bastard! Tired of that I continued over the bar and what did I find? False albacore!!! Nice. Hobble over to the cabin and break out the fly rod and study the pattern. 10 minutes in and I got the pattern! Set up approximately 100-120 feet from the melee and kill the engine and drift into them. I finally get within casting difference and get that cast in them. No take! Change the fly and hear an outboard screaming into the school and 3 whatever's flinging shit all over. Where the fluck do these morons come from? No other boat in the entire ocean and they have to fluck up my day. Driving rain, heavy wind, etc. Needless to say I had to fight for position as they needed to chase me around to catch a fish. Finally positioned for a cast and had a great look and hit and I missed the set. Damn. Next thing I know I have missiles flying over the boat, line under my boat etc. Time to go. I looked around and fish everywhere. Why??

Sounds crazy but hoping for cold temperatures and crazy big oceans. The only time I get some peace. Sad.

Until the next...............
