Wisconsin's Muskie Madness: Records are Made to be Broken... and Tied!

Just when you thought a record was safe, another monster comes along to challenge the throne! On June 4th, fishing guide extraordinaire Jeff Van Remortel landed a colossal 56-inch muskie on Green Bay, setting a new catch-and-release state record for Wisconsin. This beautiful beast, caught on a Musky Innovations Swimmin' Dawg, was a true giant, and a testament to Van Remortel's 16 years of experience on the water. But hold on to your hats, because the story doesn't end there! A mere three months later, on September 11th, one of Van Remortel's clients, Dave Pasula, reeled in another 56-incher, tying the brand-new record! It seems Green Bay is a muskie factory, and we can't wait to see what other giants emerge from its depths.
Ghost Ship of Georges Bank: A 96-Year-Old Mystery Solved

In a tale that sounds like it's straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster, the wreck of the ST Seiner, a World War I-era steam trawler, has been discovered after being lost to the sea for nearly a century. The 139-foot fishing vessel, which sank in a storm in January 1929 with 21 souls aboard, was found 200 feet beneath the waves, 125 miles off the coast of Nantucket. The intrepid team from D/V Tenacious of Atlantic Wreck Salvage identified the wreck in July 2025, bringing closure to a 96-year-old maritime mystery. The discovery is a somber reminder of the perils of the sea, and a tribute to the brave fishermen who lost their lives.
From the Abyss: Say Hello to the Bumpy Snailfish!

Just when we think we've seen it all, the deep sea throws us another curveball. Scientists have officially identified a new species of snailfish, and it's a weird one! Meet the "bumpy snailfish" (Careproctus colliculi), a pink, bumpy-textured creature discovered at a mind-boggling depth of 10,722 feet off the coast of California. This little guy, along with two other newly identified snailfish species, the dark snailfish and the sleek snailfish, was discovered by researchers from SUNY Geneseo using MBARI's remotely operated vehicle, Doc Ricketts. It just goes to show, there's a whole world of bizarre and wonderful creatures waiting to be discovered in the dark, mysterious depths of our oceans.
Sunshine State Snakehead Showdown!

And finally, a quick shout-out to an angler in Florida who reportedly landed a massive 17-pound snakehead, a potential new world record! While details are still scarce, a 17-pounder is a true monster of a snakehead, and we'll be keeping our ears to the ground for more information on this incredible catch.
That's all for this week, folks! Until next time, tight lines and happy fishing!
