Hi.. Worked my way to Great Kills Harbor this morning to do some surf fishing for fluke. Fished the first 3 hours of the incoming tide. Winds was fairly strong blowing for the southwest. The water was crystal clear which surprised me after last night's heavy thunderstorms. Terminal tackle was a 3/4oz. spro bucktail tipped with a 4" gulp swimming mullet in chartreuse. About a foot above the bucktail, I used a 3/0 bait holder hook with a 3"gulp in the same color. Landed 4 short fluke which were nice sized. The number of short fluke that I've caught keeps growing but the percentage of keepers remains the same :ZERO. Regardless of the catch, just being out there is a pleasure in itself. To all a good weekend and tightlines

Hi Guys,

New to the site and thoroughly enjoying it. I was wondering if any of you could offer some advice. Im a life long surf fisherman from the far east end of Long Island with many big fish under my belt. My wife and I have recently been relocated to Bayonne NJ due to work and Ive heard that Staten Island has some very fishy water for surf rats like me. Im 49, super easy to get along with, fully geared up and a truck for transportation. My preferred method of fishing is throwing artificial for bass and blues.

Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. Also would like to communicate with anyone in the area that has similar interests and would be interested in connecting.

Sincere Thanks,

JC

Hi.. Welcome. As a resident of Staten Island, I have been fishing the beaches here for many years. I do plug fishing for bass and blues during the fall run. Right now, its fluke fishing for me. If you take a look at a map of Staten Island , you will see that there is plenty of beach stretching along the island. I usually fish the south shore beaches as they are close to home. There are a lot of possibilities for you to try and I would be happy to point them out to you. Just post and I will answer
