Got out around 7 AM , launched my boat at Wantagh Park. Headed over to the Loop Bridge to see if the Fluke were still there ( haven't been out the last 3 weeks) , on the way there I saw a huge bluefish blitz going on between The Jones Beach Pier and The Meadowbrook Bridge, they were breaking on the surface, nice action for a while catching 4-5 pound bluefish. Couple of boats out there early , nice and quiet before the Armada started coming out. It was outgoing tide , light south wind and it was hot and humid . Get out there super early for those bluefish, saw giant flocks of birds diving . Fun catching nice size bluefish in 20 feet of water , thought I had a bass it was fighting so hard . Left the bluefish biting and went over to try fluking at the Loop Bridge. Very slow there, just 1 short. So I went into Jones Inlet and caught maybe 8 or 9 shorts , no keepers. Fished the East side from the Construction dock to 3/4's of the way out the inlet. High/Low fluke rig with a teaser , squid and smelt. Fluke aren't aggressive and hitting the white teaser. The Inlet had breakers all the way from the east jetty over into the middle of the inlet. Just white water , nothing steep, boats just had to go slow and thru. the white water. Pretty good day, not too crowded, almost never see a party boat fishing for fluke in the bay . Wanted to go out and troll for mahi mahi, spanish mackerel, bonito, false albies and maybe bluefin tuna, but the last couple of days have been windy and probably the ocean was too bumpy for my 25 Panga.
