Left the house with the boat in tow & looked like the sun was breaking through low clouds. Got to the boat launch in Greenport & their it was fog. My New Years resolution was that I wouldn't launch & leave the dock in the fog, but it didn't look too bad. Got off the trailer & headed towards Plum Gut, passed Bug Light & the fog thickened. By the time I got to the the Gut visibility was less that 1/8 mile. Been their done that & I don't like it, too many targets on the radar, & to me the fog horn on the ferry is just plain scary. Decided to find the green buoy on the North side of the Gut, out of the fishing rips & out of the path of the ferry till it lifted. Hung out by the buoy for over an hour & his majesty the sun started to break through, time to go fishing. Couple empty drifts till I found what the bass wanted, & ended the tide with 7 stripers, most under the slot, one over, & one in the slot for the table. Just don't feel comfortable in that area in the fog, don't think I ever will.
