Captain's Table - Family Day on the Bay

Today’s half day charter crew consisted of my very first, and most loyal customer and his family looking for some Fluke and Weakfish action in the bay.

Worked several of the same drifts s I did with yesterday’s group early on and while the number of Fluke landed was somewhat improved keepers remained hard to come by. Sal did nail one nice Weakfish of 3.5# on one of the first drifts then a few short Fluke. Drops to the east also saw a few more short Fluke until Maria had a solid hit and was fighting what certainly looked like a sizeable Fluke Unfortunately, we forgot to check her drag early on and with one large surge just before we saw the fish, it came free. However, she is always an optimistic and determined angler and on the next drift she dd reverse the loss by landing the first keeper of the day at 20”. Only one more short in this area before the bite died and we moved further west.

On the last few Fluke drifts of the morning, we did locate a small body of fish and John wound up catching one last 3.5# fish and several more shorts. So final tally was 14 Fluke but only 2 keepers. Moved over to the Weakfish grounds and the schools were thick allowing us to enjoy 90 minutes of steady action. Boxed 3 more keepers out of 15 Weaks to end the trip. Ultimately the crew members all worked hard to earn enough keepers to make for a nice family dinner this evening.
