Captain's Table Maiden Voyage 2020

After waiting out some really cold crummy weather this month and a few small, nagging mechanical problems I finally made my first trip in yesterday fine spring weather.

Based on my local intel and seeing the very cool water temps I opted to pass on Fluke and went straight to the Porgy grounds. Arrived at the bottom of the Ebb but no bites for the first 20 minutes on slack water. Moved a little to the east and as soon as the chum slick got started the fish quickly followed. First catch of the new season was a nice double header with the larger fish pushing 15”. As the tide picked up steam the bite followed along. Kept only the 10 largest of an easy limit catch with the best fish over 17” and quite tall. Really fat Scup!

Finished the day with 30 minutes diamond jigging by Jessups and picked up 3 schoolie Bass to 24”. The bigger keepers should be hitting the east end by the end of next week coinciding with the next New Moon period.

Sure, hope we can start running charters again soon. Stay healthy everyone, and have faith!

Nice job. Good move skipping the fluke we bounced around shelter island today for zero fluke. The porgy bite was very good though. We had 2 short fluke in 1 drift in Shinecock this morning before we went thru the canal
