Yesterday’s half day charter was “Reunion Day” for Sean M. and his family. We were hoping to do a number on the Sea Bass population out in the LI Sound but strong southerly winds forced a change in plans for the afternoon trip.
Plan B was to take the safer and more comfortable route of fishing for the mixed bag action in the bay and, as usual, the action was very steady. The Porgy schools are still very large although at this time of year a lot more sorting takes place to find the nice keepers for the table. Still no problem putting a bunch of 20 filet size Scup in the box for their family dinner. A little extra excitement was provided by a few Weakfish of which 2 were nice sized keepers in the 3# range. Grandma Flora was talking the entire trip about her famous fish soup she planned to make using the racks from these beauties!
So, we did our best to make the proverbial lemonade from the “lemon type” weather pattern handed to us by mother nature. Unfortunately, it looks like my next few trips are also going to be postponed due to the remnants of Beryl moving through our area. Hoping to get the next Montauk Fluke trip in middle of the week. Stay tuned!
