Captain's Table - Solid Sea Bass Action

Fine summer weather set the stage for 3 consecutive ½ day Sea Bass charters aboard the Captain’s Table. Each day found the Sea Bass present in big numbers with the usual sorting process necessary to cull some nice keepers for all my customers. Working the slack water period only allows about 90-120 minutes of actual fishing time on these short trips but with a diligent effort some tasty filets made it home on each trip.

Friday and Sunday I spent working one of my old reliable drops just north of Plum Island. The Mike party on Friday had effectively 3 anglers fishing and they managed to put 4 nice keepers to 18” in the box. Sunday’s crew with the Max party had a mix of adults and kids taking turns on the rods with everyone catching many fish. They were rewarded with 6 keepers for their efforts to 19’.

Saturday had a small crew of Mark and his uncle Joel doing a private family trip and we worked a different, slightly deeper drop on the CT side of the Sound. This area produced the best results of the weekend with 8 beautiful keepers to 20” among many other shorts. We also tried a quick hour of the flood tide in the Gut hoping to catch a Striper as the have been hanging around a bit longer than usual this summer. Unfortunately, the action was pretty quiet for all the boats working the area around mid-day and all we could muster was one really large, mean Bluefish in the high teens.

After a little unsettled weather on tap for the start of this week, we are planning to get back out again soon either locally or perhaps a Montauk Fluke trip, whatever the sea conditions will allow.
