Well-Known Angler
The stretch of good weather this week allowed me to finish off yesterday and today with 2 more very strong Tog Charters.
Yesterday the crew consisted of a couple of new customers, Tony, and Alex, along with long time regulars, Frank G., and the famous Chef Nader. First stop was my favorite inshore jig drop on the CT side and action there was slow but steady for the first 2 hours of the ebb tide. Following a bit of sorting the guys managed to put 5 nice keepers to 18” in the box along with one keeper Sea Bass.
Next move out to the nearby reef found the Tog aggressive and hungry for the balance of the ebb tide. Non stop action produced really nice Tog ranging in size from shorts up to a pair of 7# fish at the upper end of the scale, both landed by the Chef himself. In typical Nader style he also broke off at least 2 other very large Blackfish he could not stop while trying to nurse his shore shoulder following recent surgery. Final tally for the day was an impressive 6-man limit, counting the Capt. and crew share of fish.
Today we followed the same plan for Matt, his friend Anthony, father-in-law Ian, and once again the famous Chef. This time the bite in shore was much more consistent and the crew put 6 nice keeper Tog in the box including a fish of 5 # for Matt on his spinner for the early part of the ebb tide.
Then we headed back out to the reef and although the action was a little slower than yesterday the persistence of the crew watched the catch build slowly until by the end of the tide we had once again reached the full boat limit. And, as often happens on his trips, Chef Nader led the way again with a beautiful top Tog of 7.3#.
So, it looks like this year’s Tog fishing is now in full swing and can only get better as water temperatures continue to cool. I have very few dates left open in November so if Blackfish are your game better call soon.
