Well-Known Angler
Sandspinner, Captain13 & I fished the Eastern Shore Yacht & County Club Stripedbass Tournament on Friday & Saturday. Was a bit of a rough 2 days fishing.

Left "13" backyard dock around 8:30 Friday morning. Saw a dolphin or two on our way out. We then proceeded to chase flocks of diving birds & fishing what we saw on the boat's instruments.

For the amount of activity being shown there seemed to be little interest in our jigs diamond or otherwise. Most of what we landed fell outside VA's slot limit size (28 to 30 inches) otherwise we would have submitted Sandspinner's 40+

Way to go Tony.
(y)

We kept picking away culling slot fish until we found ourselves at the mouth of the Potomac River. About a 35 mile trek. Picking up a Puppy Drum & a few other interesting creatures along the way.

You don't realize how huge a body of water the Chesapeake is until you're in a 24 foot boat & there is no land visible in any direction. And this is a Bay!
:p

Reminded me of a fishing trip to Lake Ontario a long time ago. Another story.

Headed back to the club for our weight in at 4.

Day 2

Weather was getting a bit dicey just ahead of the weather we're all dealing with today. Two to three foot swells with some breaking higher. "13" pushed on. Less bird activity to clue us in "13" started to rely on waypoints he had plotted during the summer.

Less fish - but better quality then we had the day before. Eventually got our boat limit (3 between the 28-36 slot). Took a few outside the slot but...........

And after getting beat up due to the weather we headed back on into the Club for the final weigh in.

We had a lot of small Black Seabass both days. All fish taken on jigs.

outcome?

We ended up missing second place for the second day's fishing by 3/4 of a pound (full stringer weight). Indulged in the fish fry (all fish submitted for weigh in donated). hush puppies, got a tee shirt & had a couple of brews.

All in all - a fun two days.

Merry whatever all..........................

I wouldn't be admitting to poaching on a website...

Also confused as to the slot you cited. At VA MRC they've posted a 20-31" slot for the Bay. All ASMFC states, including Virginia, had to reduce their 28-35" slot to 28-31" in July, 2023.

4 VAC 20-252-90. Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries fall striped bass recreational fishery.

A. The open season for the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries fall striped bass recreational fishery shall be October 4 through December 31, inclusive.

B. The minimum size limit shall be 20 inches total length.

C. The maximum size limit shall be 31 inches total length.

D. The daily possession limit shall be one fish per person.

Little Clarification regarding the above:

Yes. You are correct on the slot. When I posted this I honestly couldn't recall what the regulations were & googled it for the purpose of the post. Where in hell I came up with 28 to 30 I'll never know - can't "refind it" now. Pretty tired at the time from the days activities I guess.

At either rate - a 28 to 30 still fits into the 20-31 you are citing. If you'll notice - it wasn't until I reported the second day results that I for whatever reason stated 36 was the high end of the slot.

Captain13 & Sandspinner were well versed in the appropriate size restrictions. No fish were kept outside of those limits.

As the fish were measured & weighed by the Club at the end of each day we wouldn't have been able to submit them if they were.

Forgive the faux pas................

don't know what appened to the pictures I had posted along with the report but ere they:

So what do you mean by this???? Appears an admission of poaching...
Jesus man - you chide me for not fishing - when I do & post about you nitpick it. It means we took a few that were outside the limit & released them without finishing the sentence because I didn't think it was necessary.

Now you know why I don't report what I may have caught when fishing.

You wanna go after my spelling next?

Fucking go away already.

Here's a paddle - go stir up shit elsewhere......................

Took a few outside the slot but......
"Took" implies retained, especially with the "but" and ellipses adding inuendo.. But what???

You could have made it clear that those fish were released. That's certainly not implicit by what you wrote...

All that being said, glad that you're getting out fishing. Terrible waste living that close to the water and not doing so...

so I used the wrong word - took instead of caught - I didn't realize I had to be a lawyer to post a fishing report.......
