City Island

Took a ride down to City Island today to grab some lunch. Headed down the end to see if Johnny’s Reef was open. It wasn’t so I wound up at Tony’s Pier. Had some scallops and decided to head over to Jack’s to shoot the breeze. They have a great sale going on 10-30% off damn near everything in the store, so if you need anything swing by. I’m happy to report that most of the new bridge construction is done, including the promenade. Should be open to fishing starting this Spring.

The Riptide III was not at dock leading me to believe that Carl probably brought it up to Norwalk to work on it over the winter. The Island Current III wasn’t at the dock either since it is up fishing in Rhode Island for cod.

I must say the island is so peaceful this time of year.

Jacks is the one that rents out the skiffs right?

I was thinking about heading there in April to try my luck for some tog when the season opens up. Is it worth the trip for the spring season, not looking for any spots, just want to know if they're in western sound by there so I don't waste some $$.

I always caught some tog during the spring season. Send me a PM and I’ll give you a few spots that have produced for me in the past.

Been wanting to get to the end of City Island Ave to have lunch at Johnny's ..... Always a treat ..........
Yes Capt Carl and his Riptide are up in Norwalk ..........

Let me know when you’re around and I’ll meet you
Will try and take a ride with Capt Carl sometime this season .........With P.P. retired , Capt Carl / Riptide and Capt Pete / Daybreak are running neck and neck as the most experienced Fisherman on the Western Sound ...... Both are extremely skilled at their craft ...............

Another unsung star of City Island was Capt Pete Anderson of the North Star ...
"P.A. " [ Pete Anderson } carried a lot of fishermen for years strictly bottom fishing except for Mackerel Season ... Anderson was a wreck pioneer in Western Sound ....
Sharp and hard working , 'P.A. " kept his boat really ship shape , the bilge was even clean enough to 'eat off of ' .....
Very typical for the North Star to leave the dock early almost every day all summer long with a full boat of fishermen ..................
He bought his first boat from Captree legend Speedy .... The North Star had wonderful lines and was a beautiful boat which I always admired ... Eventually he bought a fiberglass hull , the boat turned out to be a real butt kicker in the sometimes rough Sound ... Big and broad the boat fished everyday regardless of the weather ....
Humble , hard working , loyal , Pete Anderson was a great asset and a great fisherman in the Party Boat Industry

WORD, Brother. many years ago on the North Star, on the same trip had blackfish, porgies, bluefish and a weakfish all on bottom rigs with clam and squid. :)?

He comes up from time to time. I see him in jacks usually in the summer.
I also heard he gets to the PT Judith area in the summer ........ I will give him a shout and try to get together for dinner this summer .... He was very good to a certain 'greenhorn ' way back when .............. Plenty of very good [ positive ] "PA " stories not to be retold here on the internet ...................
PS . That dinner check is on me ..............
