Even Captain Ahab got lucky once in a while…

Really trying to overcome my striped bass obsession, but when I popped out of bed totally awake at 04:00 today I figured the fish were calling.

Ran down to the spot where I was abused yesterday, but saw a good omen. At this spot if there’s an eagle in the tree overlooking it I usually do well. When I realized there was a trio of them today, I started to shake with excitement.

Turns out got 5 today including this one just under 31” even with the tail pinch. Sashimi tonight!!

Roc - be proactive with "candling" those fillets, If you're eatin' it raw. I have found seal worms in bass fillets, at least twice that I can recall.

I do inspect post skinning and individually as I cut up the individual pieces for sashimi. For the record, I have found a grand total of 1 seal worm in a single striped bass fillet from a fish from the Piscataqua River on the NH/ME border 12 years ago, and not a one in the fish I've been catching here for the past 11 seasons. When I fished LI in late 60s-early 80s, I never did see one.

The cod I fillet keep me in good practice regarding seal worm detection; most cod have at least 1/2 dozen in them, especially when caught inshore. I've even just tossed entire fish out when the count in a single fillet exceeds 15 or so. Regardless, Cod Sushi or Sashimi are never menu items at Chez Roccus...

Somehow I feel as if I've seen that photo before. You really are a bass killer. ;)

Just kidding. Congrats on hitting that lottery slot more than most!

Fishing alone means on deck or in cooler photos. I swear by Poseidon that it is yesterday’s fish. I understand that ME bass are far better looking than LIS fish, and the brother of a big YouTube and author accuses me of sharing fish porn. I only see maybe 1 myco infected fish per year.
