Fishing Seminars

I'm not sure about January but each year around the President's Weekend in February you have the NY Sportfishing Federation show at Freeport Recreation Center that has a number of seminars.
Then on Saturday March 7 is one of the most popular events on all of LI, the Ward Melville HS Fishing Club event. This will be the eighth year for this show and it just keeps growing. Well over 100 vendors and a full agenda of seminars, including one from yours truly! If you like fishing n the North Fork I would encourage you to join me for my talk. Best of all there is no admission fee and parking is free. I guarantee you will have a great time if you attend this one.
Have a great, and hopefully short winter!!!
Capt. Mike Bady

I finally made it to the Ward Melville HS show last snowy day in March. It was mobbed but well worth the drive. I hit the Skinner and Paduano seminars. Ended up costing me a new fluke rig as I now use nothing bigger than 3/4 oz bucks and jigs. Mark March 7 on your calendars !

Not as good as Ward Melville HS show, but depending on where you live there is the world hunting and fishing expo in Suffern NY. I think it’s in March if memory serves me.

I think it fell on the same weekend. (edited to add that it was the week before)

I love the Ward Melville HS Fishing show and have gone every year. The only complaint it is that it has become so popular the parking is a nightmare.

I have gone to your seminar. Also went to John Skinner and Captain John Paduano seminars. All were excellent.

I have never been to the NY Sportfishing Federation show at Freeport Recreation Center maybe this year.

IIRC I was supposed to meet up with you BG last year. We were probably sitting within 50 feet of each other or less at those two seminars.
Wishing to wait until the snow ceased in Matzahpizza, I didn't arrive last year until 10ish, parked at that church that the school told us about, and caught the school bus shuttle to the front door after a two minute wait. I did have to use 4WD in the church lot as it wasn't plowed. I saw a bunch of people park at the Jewish center. Pretty stupid and lazy doing so on a Saturday. I even caught the bus back to my truck when I left. Definitely hoping to go back.

Any upcoming fishing seminars in 2020 for those of us getting cabin fever?
Third, fourth or fifth vote for the Ward Melville show.

The Edison NJ and Rhode Island Saltwater shows are also great (but a bit of a hike). I’ve stopped going to the Rockland Show. Too many freshwater and hunting exhibits (nothing wrong with that, but saltwater fishing definitely feels like it’s 3rd on the priority list there).

Not surprised. Although i hunt deer, i only have hunted on Long Island for over ten years and its even longer since i did sweetwater. Have no idea where suffern is. I have ventured west of the meadowbrook parkway just 3x this past year- for the zoo, the aquarium and Yankee stadium lol. Already looking forward to Ward Melville

I'll add a sixth vote for Ward Melville show from earlier this year. Got to meet George and a few of you NYANGLERs at NYANGLER.COM table. I think it is a good cause to benefit the future of our shared passion. A nice bunch of boys and girls that enjoy fishing. I also enjoyed Skinner's seminar( Think he needs auditorium next year to accommodate all interested attendees.) Had a good time and laughs at John Paduano's seminar too. Glad I brought some extra $$ as I worked some really good all cash deals with some of the vendors.:). This show definitely recommended. (y)(y)

Ward Melville is so popular, I wish there was a way for them to keep making money for the kids while expanding the area they hold this in. It is just packed. Hopefully they keep the high quality speakers. Last year I missed the first couple of seminars due to a delay and traffic getting in. But I really enjoyed John Skinners presentation and learned a lot from Captain John Paduano and his snap jigging seminar. I have learned if you go, you might as well put the knowledge to use and try new things so you don't get stale and do the "same old / same old" year after year.

The only corridor I recall unused was the way to the music room where Paduano's seminar was... maybe if they went to two days ?

Thanks folks....its getting close

Hello there Missing Link. Just wanted to say that it was the best fishing expo I have ever attended, and no comparison to oldies at Farmingdale College, the Coliseum, etc. I did indeed take advantage of the school bus shuttle and caught the very first one from that church at 10AM (although 4WD in that lot was necessary when I got there!) Even got it on the return trip. Those students are mature beyond their years ! Already marked all my calendars.

All Pro Charters puts on a the Long Island's Fishing Expo. Just to get in is expensive and not worth it. But has anyone here been to the seminars?

I went two years ago and attended the Skinner seminar. The rest were meh. Attended one by a couple of Montauk Captains on fluking - I was the only one in the room. They were nice guys (don't remember their names) but they were talking about 40 pound test and using spearing and squid and I quickly realized this was not the seminar for me.

I wouldn't pay that entrance fee again. Ward Mellville is so much better.

No Skinner this year fyi.

Saw I had another email about All Pro - anyone have an idea on the cost this year? My email just says that today is the last day to enjoy 20% off but doesn't actually list a price.
