Government Shutdown Forces Disruptions in February Fisheries Meetings

Might be a stupid question, BUT if this shutdown continues, could it impact the Feb 5-7 Winter Meeting? I'm sure there is much work to be done and any NOAA presenters/participants are almost surely furloughed. As for ASMFC, much funding does come from NOAA so how will this impact things??

I don't know about the funding going into the ASMFC, but all the employees that deal with he various issues are employees of the ASMFC or the states, no federal employees work directly (yes there is some interaction with the feds on jointly manage species) for the ASMFC, so I'm guessing things will procede

FWIW I just got a notice that the Joint ASMFC/MAFMC meting on Fluke, sea bass and scup has been postponed due to the shutdown and the MAFMC SSC meeting, and the Advisory panel meeting have also been postponed

The February 2019 meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council has been cancelled due to the government shutdown. The Council is considering rescheduling some of the planned agenda items for a shorter meeting tentatively scheduled for March 6 and 7 in Virginia Beach. However, feasibility of this option is highly dependent on when the government reopens. For additional information, please contact Chris Moore ([email protected], 302-526-5255).

Please note that a number of committee and advisory panel meetings have also been cancelled as a result of the shutdown. Updates about cancellations and rescheduled meeting dates are being posted on an ongoing basis at http://www.mafmc.org/newsfeed/2019/federal-shutdown-effects-on-mafmc-meetings.

I do "like" the fact that you reported this Mike, but would hate to "Like" a post that brings very disturbing news. I was afraid of this and was going to hit the website this evening to check on it.

Ugggghhhh!!!
