Eddie Lovely of Hampton, assistant wrestling coach at Ellis Tech and owner of Elovely Drywall, has landed himself in the record books with an epic catch just off Fishers Island. On Wednesday, July 30th, Eddie—known locally as The Fishin’ Magician—reeled in a massive 16-foot thresher shark tipping the scales at over 700 pounds.
The battle took over six hours on open water. Eddie’s wife Cynthia, who was on board during the catch, told WINY Radio they fought tooth and nail to bring the beast in. She joked that their boat, humorously named “Size Doesn’t Matter,” finally lived up to the hype.
“We were exhausted. But Eddie was determined,” Cynthia said. “That shark wasn’t going anywhere once he had it hooked.”
With this catch, Eddie has unofficially smashed the state’s known records for recreational shark fishing. Word is spreading fast in fishing circles, and Eddie’s now getting called everything from Captain Crunch to Shark Whisperer.
Whether you’re into sport fishing or just love a good local legend, this is one story that’ll be circling the docks for years.
