Handgun purchase in Suffolk county (NY)

the following is excerpted from the scpd.org website: Q & A

9. What do I need to purchase a handgun?
You must respond to the Pistol Licensing Bureau with a bank check, personal check or money order as well as a receipt from a NYS Dealer in Firearms indicating the make, model, type, caliber and serial number of the firearm(s) being purchased to obtain purchase documents for same. The cost is $5.00 for each handgun and an additional $5.00 for any other applicable amendment to the license.

and today, December 14, 2023, straight from fellow members on a shooting website I frequent:
  • 1-Go to store buy gun get paperwork and pictures of gun and serial number. (pay separately for update NICs)
2-Bring those items to yaphank with the $5 fee check or money order, they will add to the card
3-return to store pick up gun and you’re done

Today, no. It is now ONE trip to Yaphank. You purchase the pistol, perform the background check, and the FFL completes a form which includes taking photos of the gun. You bring that out to Yaphank with your payment. They complete the paperwork and add the pistol to your license. PLB then hands you your license back and a Purchase Order. You go back to the FFL and pick up your firearm.
and the best reply of all:
1. Go to FFL, pass NICS & pay for gun
2. Get receipt from dealer with (2) photos, one showing serial# clearly and one showing the entire gun. Make sure Make, Model, S/N, and Pistol License# is correct on receipt and photos, before you leave gun shop.
3. Bring receipt & photos to SCPD, with a $5 check or money order made out to "SCPD"
4. Hand the PLB employee above and your pistol license. PLB employee fills out amendment form and has you sign on the bottom. Updated license and Purchase Authorization form is then printed.
5. Retrieve updated license and authorization form from PLB employee. Verify that make/model/serial# is correct on both the license and Authorization Form, before you leave PLB.
6. Return to FFL w/ Updated License and Authorization form. Retrieve gun. If step 6 happens on a different day from steps 1-5, make sure you sign off on your NICS recertification on the NICS form when you get back to the FFL.
7. Take gun home. Verify that "home" matches the address shown on your pistol license.
