I couldn’t let a beautiful opening day pass me by so I kept up with tradition the past few years …left work at 2 and was floating by 3.
Went to an inclose spot where I had great action 2 Sunday’s ago. Had fish right away. My neighbor Rich landed an absolute unit of a Black Sea bass….huge knot head 20 incher.
Right after we had a 15 1/2 tog, followed by a pair of 15’s. Back they went. Then the switch shut off. Sporadic pecks and nibbles, a couple of average porgies…what happened!!!
Jogged around a bit with the Rhodan but couldn’t get the bite going. Got back on to my original spot and it seemed the bite picked up with a couple more shorts.
Felt a little scratch and pick up…lifted and was instantly reminded of the 25 inch monster I released…same fight, same up and down, same runs, same sneaky pick up. We battled for 20 seconds until the veteran wiggled free.
The four letter expletive outburst that free flowed from my soul was impressive and heard a few boats down. I reeled up to find everything intact. After then, dead city…not another touch.
Tail tucked, we cruised in with last of the days light.
