Got out later Friday afternoon for opening day Tog on my neighbors ride. Hit a spot on the LI side @ 30ft and managed 3 keepers in 2 hours of fishing along with a few porgies and small sea bass. Keepers were 16, 17 and 18 inches.
Sunday got out early and motored across to the Ct side. Set the Rhodan in at rocky 20 ft and had instant life. Second fish up was a chuncky 17 incher. We had a great bite going as within the first hour we had 3 keepers and plenty of close shorts, all the while the seas were building from the east as the outgoing tide started to roll. By 10am the Spot Lock was having a hard time holding the spot as 2-3 foot chop was keeping us on our toes. We did managed one more keeper after resetting the “anchor”. Finally it became apparent we better get going and had a slow ride back with 3-5 foot rollers mid sound.
Seas were calm on the LI side with the SE wind. I did consider giving an inclose spot a shot, but with fish and a boat to clean we called it a day. Water temps averaged 64 degrees…sure to go down this week. Looking forward to next weekend.
