These Changes Only Apply to Commercial Fishing On May 16, 2019, NOAA Fisheries revised the 2019 commercial quota for summer flounder. Stock assessments have revealed that, at this time, summer flounder is not overfished, and overfishing is not occurring. As a result, the annual quota allocated to New York State in 2019 is increased from 510,054 pounds to 839,869 pounds, an increase of 329,815 pounds. The additional summer flounder quota has been distributed throughout the remaining periods (Periods 3 – 5). Additionally, the month of November has been added to Period 5, with an additional 33,035 pounds. The main goal of this distribution plan is to have no summer flounder closures in 2019. The daily trip limit is currently set at 70 pounds and is expected to remain at that limit until further notice. |
