Its just one of those days

One of those days of 1 step forward, 2 back... The original plan for the day was to go fishing and cut a small patch of lawn I didn't get yesterday. HA-HA!! The Gods had other plans

  • Hop on the boat at 04:30, starboard running light bulb dead. No biggie, this fixture seems to "eat" bulbs so I always have inventory. I fixed it after fishing...

  • Open the shed to start mowing, left drive tire flat . Not a biggie was able to pump it up and cut the lawn. Set up the mini hydraulic jack to get it off tomorrow for a trip to the tire shop. 3rd flat in the past 3 months, nail in truck tire, blown out spare on trailer and now this one. Hope this ends the bad run...

  • While mowing I noticed that I need to trim back a few white pines to prune off limbs damaged by white pine weevils. Out comes the pole saw/branch lopper, but wait there's more!! Those trees are in Tick Country, so put the permethrin clothes on and treat entry points with Ultrathon...

  • While removing damaged limbs, noticed a few large, low ones that needed removal, out comes the pole chain saw, which means take the weed whacker off the power head and put on the pole saw. Ah, after finishing this, it's time for a shower & beverage...

  • Wait a minute, a "Honey, can you take out the power washer?" SOS comes in from the Admiralty. It's in code & really means, "Grab that thing and get your butt here ready to wash!!" Of course when the Queen is happy, there's peace in the Kingdom, and then there was peace...

wow roccus,,,,,,, always somethhing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,never ends,,,,,,but you said it,, happy wife ,, happy life,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,have a good nite,,,,,,,, ><)))):>

Actually was yesterday, but classic Rookie Mistake turned a 15 minute chore into a 90 minute one that is still yet to be completed...
  • Had around 90 free minutes prior to dinner and decided to reassemble the dock-float swim ladder and install it the dock. I had finished its every other year antifouling paint job on Tuesday.
  • Instead of doing the reassembly INSIDE the shed, I did it on the ramp into the shed, a ramp with slats that are 3/8 of an inch apart
  • Yup, clumsy fingers dropped the nylon insert lock nut and it fell between the slats under the ramp, rolling out of sight
  • Decision time:
    • Get the magnet on the flexible shaft? No stupid, it's an aluminum nut.
    • Go to the hardware store and get one? No stupid, slim chance of finding an aluminum one locally, maybe at Hamilton Marine, but we're talking an 80 mi round trip.
    • Get on you knees and see if you can move it to where you can see it
  • Five futile minutes on hands and knees proved the obvious, but dreaded reality that I was going to have to remove one or two slats and not kill the ramp.
    • Out came the small pry bar and a hammer, 5 minutes of work with that with worthless
    • Out comes Big Bertha, the full sized crow bar, after 20 minutes, the nailed in slat is removed with no damage to the ramp, Thank Poseidon
    • Took 5 minutes, but missing nut found
    • Assembled ladder, hand tightening the 2 lock nuts
    • Time to remove old nails, little pry bar and hammer put to use, but had to go into the garage and get the big-azz Vise Grip to straighten the bent nails
    • Not going to nail the slat back in case I fuck things up in the future
      • Rummage through screw selection to find some screws
      • Grab the nut driver
      • Reinstall the slat
  • OK, off to the float. Get 1/2 down there and realize I had yet to do a final tightening of the lock nuts
    • Back up to the tool box for a box wrench
    • Torque down on the nuts
  • CRAP it's dinner time, I'll put the ladder on the float tomorrow!!
Before you ask, whenever I mount the ladder on the float I always tie a line to it. Once I'm on a nautical situation, I've learned through experience you have to ensure that whatever you're working with doesn't succeed in its innate determination to go overboard. I should have known better to be aware of that concept ashore...

Yup washing machine went bad two days ago had the whistler in the oil tank fixed two days ago got fuel oil today and now the oil tank in the basement is leaking ........ today is gonna be a good drinking day

Had a great "Wake Up" today. Woke up ~03:00 to make a run to the head and noticed a light flashing telling me that my internet was out. Figured I'd go back to sleep and fix it later when I actually woke up.

So at 05:12 I hit the network, shutting down the router and the fiberoptic MUX and restarting them sequentially, but still no joy, WTF??? Called my internet provided and they said no outages in my area, WTFFF???????

OK, let's check things. WAIT!! I don't have any WiFi Networks with NETGEAR names, did my router reset itself???? WTF!! I can't log into my router, must have been reset to factory settings, BAH FONGOOOOLLLLL!!!!!

OK, time to go in via the router's back door, reset the password and started the laborious process to try to avoid having to resynch every WiFi device on the networks. Bottom line, all my "home devices" that I had on the Guest network, multiple appliances and 2 tide clocks, have to be reset. Got the critical ones done, the others aren't critical and will be done when I have time to kill. Most of the devices on the password protected networks were good so that looks fine, thank Poseidon...

Now I only have 2 open items:
  • Is the router on the way out? Just ordered a replacement to have on hand. Another event like this and new one will get installed.

  • Do I need to go ahead and assign IP addresses for devices such as printers which I have been using over the years to keep them from getting lost to DHCP? Another PITA I'd like to avoid...

one of your devices may have done a auto adjustment to day light savings just like cable boxes do while the devices that combatted that shorted links to each other.

I had several I-phones and I-pads drop all scheduled alerts , alarms / notes in a shared network.
I had to reload and Link 5 devices today.

not sure if this is related to what happened to your systems without knowing or seeing your set up.
Possibly a similar event.

Always a treat to go down into the basement and you see water on the floor. Saw some today by the boiler's expansion tank and first figured there must have been a leak on the bottom where it was plumbed into the system.

Damn thing isn't even 4 years old!!! Oh, great, holiday weekend and the temps are going to plummet Monday, after our biggest snowfall of this winter.

Texted my >$35/hr Plumber and asked if I should just seal it up with some 3M 5200 until he could come over. I was pleasantly surprised that he happened to be in the neighborhood, and had a spare on the truck, "I'll be right over!" Thank be to Poseidon!!!

When he got here he said the 5200 wasn't a bad idea, and I could always use it in an emergency. 5200 is on the Roccus List of best inventions, which includes ViceGrips and WD40...

When he originally installed this tank, he made sure that all the connections were "Wrench Friendly", and it took him all of 10 min to swap the new one in. Hell, even I could have done it, but it's not like I had a spare handy.

The good news was that it was under warranty. When I asked WTF is wrong with manufacturing quality, he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Welcome to my nightmare!"

Well, as they say, "All's well that ends well" and we're sitting here warm and toasty...

$35 or less. Jeeze, before I sold my company I was looking for a helper at $36 and didn’t get one applicant in four months 😞
