Last of the year...........................but not of the winter season!

longcast

Well-Known Angler
Really had no set plans until later today. Heard my daughter moving around, she had work today and I could not get back to sleep. Coffee and breakfast with the wife and realized there was a void in the morning. Kept remembering the tee shirt I've seen of the skeleton holding a rod while sitting in a lawn chair with the caption, "one more cast".

So, it was time time for "one more cast" of 2023. Today I added an extra layer of clothing and socks for the trip to the various ponds I frequent. Temperature on the Chevy showed a paltry 37. Cold!

I managed to put together a catch, but had to work for it. No real winter pattern. Did not find fish where they were "supposed" to be. I had to cast and move, change angles, try a few different weed edges. The only constant was the pace. No false movements, no twitch, nothing. Think watching grass grow or paint drying. Tough any day, but on a cold, breezy pond it hurts! Still trying to warm up with coffee in hand.

Two trout and a bass. One trout gave me a real run for the money, jumping and thrashing around and playing possum in the shallows and them going on a lightning, drag ripping run.

Great way to end the year. Hoping all of NYA and their families have a "fishy" 2024! Enjoy and be safe.
