Misfit Kayak Fishing Team: Earning the Fish by Learning the Fish

Decided to try something different this time up to the Housatonic: A night fishing trip, through sunrise, into the following day. I'm a firm believer that the night bass fishing is always better than during the day. I'm going to qualify that now and add "... unless it affects the water temp." That's my theory anyway as to why we only caught four fish in 6 hours of fishing in a snowstorm.
We ended up fishing in three hour shifts and coming back to the trucks to recharge periodically. From 12 to 3am we only caught 2 fish. From 3:00 to 6:00 the temps dipped into the low 30s and the wind cranked in the high 20s. I earned one fish... but I fu#%ing EARNED that fish.
Sunrise produced only a few fish here and there, but around 9:00 things just seemed to light up. Pete and I each had about a dozen fish before we stopped for breakfast. The last shift saw us each add to our totals and by 3:00 we'd safely caught and released 29 bass between us. Still using soft plastics, variations but with mainly white for a color, trolled at a snail's pace. I did better with my 4" silver and white pan tail than Pete did with a 5" all-white curly-tail.
Another month of this and I can start looking for fish in the Hudson, NJ, and JBay.
