The emergency broadcast came in approximately 25 miles southeast of the island “with no additional information,” the Coast Guard said. An HC-144 plane and MH-60 helicopter were “immediately launched” from Air Station Cape Cod to respond to the incident, according to officials.
“Aircrew reported a white cooler, oil sheen, and other debris,” Coast Guard officials said. “Station Shinnecock also launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat.
