Before I begin, I am venting, but this really happened today.
My wife wasn’t feeling well and i called our doctors office to see when they opened. The next thing I know I’m on the phone with an on call PA - Very good thing. After speaking with my wife she determines that she needed to dispatch an ambulance. As you can imagine a lot goes through your mind at this point and as I’m gathering things my phone rings and I see it’s Empire Health Insurance.
I was bit surprised, and I still have no clue how they knew we were dealing with a medical issue. The caller proceeds to tell me that they need to speak with my wife to determine if they will,be paying for the ambulance! I was like “what, I’m not putting my wife on the phone with you she has enough stress right now. He then explained that unless he spoke with her they couldn’t approve the ambulance. The rest of the conversation was short and full of 4 letter words.
What she has is most likley not life threatening but she will be in there for the next few days. And this is not about the money, because i didn’t give a crap who was paying. This is about the cold callus attitude of my heath insurance provider.
