New for 2022 Shimano Tranx 150

Leprechaun

Kind of a Big Deal - In My Mind Anyway
Staff member
Looks like Shimano likes their Tranx 200/300/400/500 family enough that they'll be releasing an even smaller version - the 150. I suppose that it'll have all the 200's features, but built on a more compact frame. As you can see, its pretty light in weight - which many prefer. Here's from Shimano:

Looks like these are already in the Tackle shops. If I get out on the road this week Ill stop by a few to check them out. Jeez only 6.7 oz.

Resurrecting an old thread. But after speaking to Joe (Flukinit) about the 150, I purchased a power handle for it from Jigging World. I'll be heading out Friday evening to give it a test run. See how it is, compared to the paddle. I'm sure it will feel the same as the power handle I installed on my Accurist Quantum.

Sounds good. Joe has hands the size of a catcher's mitt, so for him it works. I have never liked oversized single ball-type handles on tiny baitcasting reels, as a/ I have human-sized hands, b/ I feel it greatly unbalances a setup, which leads to tired wrists after a day of jigging, and c/ putting an oversized handle on a tiny reel places increased stress on the gears, causing premature wear.

What I prefer is a larger dual-knob handle such as this 120mm Gomexus CNC machined aluminum version, with its matching 30mm ball-bearing knobs. I bet it doen't cost much more than what Jigging World gets for their single-knob handle.

Ehh, tomato, tomahto, it comes down to what a user likes. Anyway, here's my much used and happily battle-scarred Daiwa Pluton 200H with that handle aboard. It's really a great match for any reel that can carry it.

Funny, I bought one too, but have not switched it out yet.

Thanks for your input as always Pete. I'll see what Friday and Monday brings.

I put on my power handle from my Abu Revo Winch 40 the knob isn't as big ax regular power handles. I really like it doesn't feel too big for the reel at all. I put a regular abu power handle on the winch.

Yes, better. But if you compare the handle you are using to the double knob version that Abu packs with the Winch and Beast reels, its length is EXACTLY the same, center of handle nut to center of knob. Plus its significantly heavier, with that chrome-on-brass counter weight on its other end. Abu just deleted the second knob and riveted on the counterweight. I have no idea why Abu calls it a Power handle, when it can supply no more "power" than the double knob version. I love Abu, and have for 50 years, but some of the things they do can be real head-scratchers.

Here's the "standard" handle with which the Beast 40 ships. Center to center distance exactly the same as the so-called power handle. (Sometimes I surprise even myself with the extent of my reel parts inventory. LOL!):

Great looking handle on a beautiful reel. Hope you catch some real monsters with it, Matt!
