No shortage of fish

Pulled away from the dock about 6am with Frank P, JJ, and Jimmy. Heading down the canal we decided we weren’t going outside. But now do we fish Robert Moses inlet or fish the back bays west toward the Wantagh bridge’s we opted the back bays. Very slow start few small fluke and sea robins. We continued moving west and by mid morning we were east of the Meadowbrook and it was one after the other fluke, robins. Made it to the west side of meadowbrook and not much going on. Came back to the east side and continued plunking fish, at about 1.30 we had enough we lost count after about 50 of each species fluke and robins, I do know the numbers of each was up there. Now let’s talk about size in all my years of fishing today might be the smallest fluke I ever buck tailed my smallest going 6” and that’s be generous. All the fish on average were between 10” to 18” inches most of the little guys were foul hooked and the gulps were big. But those little guys were aggressive and hungry. At days end one keeper at 19.5. Can’t complain beautiful day and action packed.

Sounds like you drifted the outgoing down to the Meadowbrook. I love fishing that stretch from the Wantagh Bridge /Jones Beach Piers down to the Big M.Nice getting out super early to get blues on the surface before the crowds. Read pink bucktail teasers are catching best. I'm still worried about my outboard overheating again and having to limp back going 2 knots, so I wanna go out close to the end of outgoing so if I have to limp back I can have the tide pushing me a little. checked my thermostat and looked alright. I don't mind catching shorts all day , nice action .

There were blues just west of Jones beach pier we stopped with the other 10/15 boats trying but our light fluke rods were no match for them as three hook ups resulted in broken off rigs left them busting water
