Now THAT'S a Wicked Tuna - $3.1Mil worth!

Et tu Brute???

Both of you should know this is a yearly ritual where companies compete to by the first Japanese caught BFT auctioned in Tokyo. Please don't help propagate this misconception that this is the reality of tuna values.

Still, $3.1mil is $3.1mil. . . That's the point of my post.

I see no need to read more into it than is there.

Yes, but misinformed folks think that's a benchmark so we need to emphasize that it is not reality.

Look at Wicked Tuna where they supposedly get $20 per lb routinely. The real price in New England last season was never greater than $12 and usually around $8. The show lures in Googans to become commercially fish for tuna under false pretenses

"The show lures in Googans to become commercially fish for tuna under false pretenses'."

My take -> Anyone that makes a business plan, buys a boat and solicits the services of a crew, based on a newspaper article, or even better, a dopey faux-drama fishing show - deserves what he gets.

Business Darwinism at its finest.

A little over 20 years ago, when I was in between jobs, I considered making fishing my full time business. Once you put the figures down on paper you quickly realize most guys doing this as their only source of income are in it because they really love the sport to the point they are willing to sacrifice almost all financial gains. My hat is off to anyone who makes even a modest living at a very difficult business.

I couldn't agree more.
