NY Penal Laws re: firearms

New York is trying again to pass this ?
I will definitely add this to my list of the why I’m leaving this state

with nothing but RINOs in this state, many of these will go through, even if they violate the 2nd Amendment. (Our governor believes this state is above the U.S. Constitution, and he is more conservative than the majority in the state legislature now.) It will take years of appeals to the higher courts to reverse some of this. If only the FUDDs upstate realized its not just about semi automatic ARs... Oh well.

Not sure if I would carry if the law did get changed. For most of my 35 years working for Uncle, I conducted or supervised background investigations for the national security. We worked alone and firearms were prohibited. I was in every city project in Crooklyn, Quince, and da Bronx (although Hempstead was a good rival in terms of danger and squalor) and escaped several attempted muggings by bluffing and luck. Never ever buttoned an overcoat or suit coat and never ever had that "little boy lost" look even when I was definitely out of my "element." Taking out the guy in front does nothing for the two behind you.
It will be interesting to see if some of the democraps upstate where gunowning is much more common are willing to vote for some of the more extreme gun control (as in anti-good guy) measures.

I've always had a carry permit in CT, rarely ever actually carried, just too damned uncomfortable to make it worthwhile. Never found a holster that was comfortable when driving.

To get one in SE Nueva Yawk, your last name has to be DeNiro, Goldberg (as in Whoopee) or Trump...politics mean little, just enough Franklins.

So far:
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The New York Senate passed a number of anti-gun violence legislation on Tuesday.

The following bills were passed in the Senate:

? - indicates bill passed both the Senate and Assembly.
  • Extreme Risk Protection Orders. Allows law enforcement officials, family and household members and certain school officials to seek a court order requiring a person likely to harm themselves or others to relinquish any firearms in their possession. [Read the bill]
  • Effective Background Check Act. Establishes an extension of time up to thirty calendar days for national in-state background checks. [Read the bill]
  • ? Bump Stock Ban. Prohibits the possession of a device that accelerates the rate of fire of a firearm. [Read the bill]
  • ? Preventing School Districts from Allowing Teachers to Be Armed. Prevents K-12 schools from authorizing anyone other than a security officer, school resource officer, or law enforcement officer to carry a firearm on school grounds. [Read the bill]
  • ? Gun Buy Backs. Directs the State Police to devise regulations for gun buyback programs so that all buyback programs across the state are operated consistently with uniform best practices. [Read the bill]
  • ? Out of State Mental Health Records. Would require out-of-state applicants for gun permits to allow New York permitting authorities to review out-of-state mental health records. [Read the bill]
Senate Democrats voted against a measure that would given schools the authority and resources to hire an armed school resource officer, improve security in and around the building, and increase the number of health professionals on staff to identify and address problems.

The extreme risk protection bill and expanded background check bill heads to the Assembly for a vote. All other bills have passed the Assembly.

If I have to live here in Newyorkistan, I am much more concerned with what the demoncraps pass the rest of this week / month.

If you believe in the 2A, you really do not want to watch Snooze 12 today regarding the gun laws that Princess Andie will sign. They evidently weeded through their interviews at the Nassau County range yesterday to find shooting enthusiasts who met their agenda. One deer hunter believing in requiring gun safety training and more frequent and recurring background checks, and a shooting safety instructor believing that liability insurance should be required for gun owners. (I had a TS for over 30 years, qualified with a 1911 and/or M16 for just as long a timeframe, and never felt the NICS check done before a firearms purchase was adequate, but that's just me. I also have no problem with the bump stock ban although it could lead to requiring the horrible trigger pulls that the NYPD is stuck with on their Glocks, the bill being so poorly written.)

Just for sh!ts and giggles I read some of the bill yesterday. Seems to me like "increasing the rate of fire" could include a good trigger replacement job.
