# Salty Sal's Long Island Sound Report - October 28, 2025

The fall run is in full swing, and the fishing in Long Island Sound is as good as it gets. The water is teeming with bait, including sand eels, peanut bunker, spearing, and bay anchovies, which is fueling a fantastic bite for multiple species. Here's the breakdown of what's happening in my neck of the woods:

**Striped Bass**

The bass fishing has been excellent, with quality fish moving through the Sound. We're seeing everything from schoolies to fish in the upper-20-pound range, and I've even heard of some 32-inchers being pulled from under the dock lights. The topwater bite has been strong, with pencil poppers and spooks getting a lot of attention. Bucktails are also producing well, especially in the faster-moving water.

**Blackfish (Tog)**

The tog bite is on fire! We're seeing a ton of action in shallow water, around 10 to 15 feet. There are a lot of shorts to pick through, but there are also some quality keepers up to 8 pounds being landed. Jigs are the way to go right now, but as the water continues to cool, we'll see the fish move into deeper water, and it will be time to break out the heavier conventional gear.

**Bonito & Albies**

The hardtail action is starting to wind down, but there are still some bonito to be found in the central and eastern Sound. The albie bite has been slow, but it's not over yet. Keep your eyes peeled for birds and have your epoxy jigs and Deadly Dicks ready to go.

**Sea Bass**

The sea bass fishing has been outstanding. The Triangle and other deeper water spots are holding some big fish. If you're looking to fill the cooler, this is a great option right now.

**The Hot Spots**

- **Mount Sinai:** Captain Skippy Charters is on a strong topwater bass bite and has been finding bonito and cocktail blues.
- **Northport:** Cow Harbor Bait & Tackle is reporting a hot tog bite in both shallow and deep water.
- **Port Washington:** The Angler Fleet is finding steady action on the tog grounds, with quality fish hitting the deck.

Get out there and enjoy the fall run, folks. It doesn't get much better than this!
