SEEKING A SOUTH SHORE SLIP

Hi all. After 40 years in the same slip on Woodcleft canal, I have lost it. It was behind a private house and well maintained. Unfortunately for me/us, the homeowner has decided to sell the house and is not renewing the slip rentals for this year in order to keep them empty. (silly move I think) I would like to stay in the Freeport area but if that is not in the cards, I will move to a new south shore area. I am seeking a slip for a 21' outboard that has water and electric available, not necessary to be right at the slip. Please let me know of any reasonably priced slips that may be available for this disabled veteran. Thank you in advance!!

If you have been on Woodcleft for years, I am sure that you are familiar with the Al Grover marina on the west side of the canal about midway down. I know they have some slips available, perfect for a 21 ft outboard. The marina is run by Al Grover Jr. His cell number is (631) 830-7865. Give him a call. He does all business with that cell phone.

Thank you for your reply. I have already spoken to Al jr. His slips are out of my affordable price range. I'm looking more for something behind a private house. This is what I had previously.

If you still want to consider a marina, I'm in Yachtman's Cove on South Main Street, Freeport. I can recommend the place - a bit less expensive than most others in the area and good ownership. If you still would consider a marina, the owner is Ernie, his phone: 516-546-6026.

Let me tell you one of the prime reasons I chose YC. After Superstorm Sandy, the owner of the home that I docked behind in Seaford threw in the towel and moved to the Keys. The new owner wanted no part of anyone docking in his new backyard. So I searched what was available - and chose YC, because the pilings that secure the floating docks/finger piers were extra tall. Many of the floating docks in Seaford floated up and off their pilings during Sandy, along with their tied up boats. The one right behind me and the one across the canal both floated up that way, and both ended up flipped backwards, along with the small-ish center consoles that were tied to them.

I wanted no part of such a tragedy, should we get hit with another monster storm. So YC made my cut. That its turned out to be a very nice place to dock my boat was fortunate, as I HATE change. :)
