All kidding aside, my original evaluation as best 20th Century American Novel continues to stand. Over the years whenever overseas work colleagues would ask about the best way to understand the American Psyche I would tell them to read Catch-22. I still stand by that recommendation, the characters in the book covers just about every American personality. AAMOF, as I'm reading it there are many characters here that remind me of characters in the book...
