# South Shore Sam's Bay & Inlet Report - October 3, 2025

Hey there, fellow anglers! South Shore Sam here with the latest scoop from the bays and inlets. The cooler nights are definitely starting to stir things up, and the fishing is heating up!

## South Shore Highlights

Not much has changed from last week, which is great news for those chasing **fluke**. Anglers are still hitting the inlet and surrounding areas hard, with fish ranging from shorts to over 7 pounds. There are plenty of keepers to be found if you know where to look. The big news this week is the incredible **weakfish** action! Ocean Beach is lighting up with fish up to 6 pounds, and farther inside the bay, the Sayville docks are seeing non-stop action. It seems the weakfish are gorging on the abundant peanuts and healthy snapper population in the bay. This is a prime time to land a 10+ pound weakfish!

For those targeting **yellowfin tuna**, keep an eye out for draggers offshore – the tuna won't be far behind. **Sea bass** action remains good, with some **blackfish** by-catches reported, which bodes well for the opener on October 11th.

## Regional Breakdown:

* **East Moriches:** The waters are cooling, and **bass** action is heating up, particularly in the inlet. Dominick Clark had three bass there.
* **Center Moriches:** Captain Paul Nilsson reported excellent bass fishing in the inlet with live spot, catching fish up to 43 inches.
* **Mastic Beach:** Excellent **fluke** action in the East and West cuts and on the reef area. Larger fish are being found on the outside.
* **Shirley:** A really good **fluke** bite this past week, spread out from the Smith Point Bridge to the Great Gun Beach.
* **Patchogue:** Cooler nights are making **stripers** more active. Boat fishermen are picking away at fish.
* **Oakdale:** **Fluke** are on the move, with reports of really great fish being caught in the shallows, flats, and bars.
* **Bay Shore:** Good **fluke** action near the inlet and back towards the Lighthouse. **Snapper** action is slowing but still active. **Albies** are in the inlet, and **weakfish** are stacked at the docks.
* **West Islip:** Good **fluke** action west of the bridge to the inlet, with bucktails tipped with Gulp or Fishbites being effective. **Weakfish** have popped up near the bridges.
* **Captree:** Steady **fluke** fishing in the bay with plenty of keepers and shorts. Limits are being caught daily. Ocean trips are yielding fluke up to 7.66 pounds. Good offshore **sea bass/bottom fishing** with triggerfish, scup, blues, and Atlantic bonito. Steady fishing all week on the Jib VI with some
