Hopped on The Gambler party boat out of Pt. Pleasant NJ. The bunkers have left our waters and the XL Stripers are now scarce. However sandeels are abundant and smaller Stripers are now jumping on the jigs. Since NJ does not have a commercial Striper fishery we've been fortunate to retain our bonus program whereby one 24-28" fish can be kept with tags provided by the State for free to registered NJ saltwater anglers. Most NJ party and charter boats have tags for their patrons. These bonus fish are in addition to the one allowed 28-31" slot. It's been a gr8 Striper season,, reduced limits, sizes and circle hooks are working. I'm leary of the proposed 2024 coastwide reg changes, , if it ain't broke don't fix it. Hudson broodstick is strong, Chesapeake weak,,, we'll all pay the price unfortunately... happy holidays all...
