We had a very productive day aboard Tall Tailz out of Newport on Monday. Mine went 9 lbs. as my biggest tog of the year. We also had a 7 and some 4's and 5's. If your goal is the biggest tog possible, Tall Tailz' Captain Conner is focused on making sure your equipment, leader and drag are up to the task. Never before had a captain do a drag check on everyone. I think the tip of my spinning rod was touching the rod's butt as I struggled to keep this fish up out of the rocks with the drag twice as tight as I normally keep it. He convinced me to get something beefier for my RI and Montauk trips. I'm considering a Daiwa SOL AGS 7' medium heavy and Jigging World Night Ranger. The fish was safely returned to keep growing.
