Hi Fellas,
Hope this post finds everyone doing well. I know I haven't been around but had some major hurdles I had to overcome, one being Alpha Gal Syndrome. I know most of you are outdoorsman and know what it is, but boy oh boy it almost took my life.
In my lifetime being I'm in the woods often and have had dogs I get a tick bite every now and then. The last tick bite I had which was two years ago was on my back. My son took it off of me and when he showed it to me I recall saying to him well that is not a normal looking tick, I never saw a tick with long legs and a white dot in the middle of it. But I dismissed it just saying to myself what's another tick bite.
About 4 months after being bit I broke out with hives head to toe. I took some Benadryl and it would go away. This went on for about a month. Then the symptoms got worse, I was struggling to breath normal, had a fever a few times and was always nauseas, but still dismissed it. Then my body started shutting down, my organs were struggling to work. I was surviving on Pedialyte and a banana a day for a few months because I was not able to keep anything down. But being the stubborn Taurus I am, I still was in denial something was wrong with me.
Then I hit rock bottom and my liver was no longer able to process toxins and filled up with about 9 cups of fluid (which was taken out with a big needle) I was in the hospital for about a month, they told me I have about a year or two to live. When I was in the hospital I knew I had Alpha Gal from a previous blood test but I kept ignoring it because I thought my symptoms would go away.
Well here I am about 2 months out of the hospital and I am feeling much better mostly from eating healthy a lot of fruit and veggies, chicken and seafood. I can no longer eat meat which is difficult for a Sicilian to adapt to no more Sunday sauce with meatballs sausage and ribs, but I have learned to adapt.
In closing, I hope nobody has to go through what I went through it was just terrible, perhaps because I just kept ignoring it.
Feeling much better now and looking forward to getting back to some FISHING!
