This Is Why I Will Not work on Daiwa's MQ reels

Kind of a Big Deal - In My Mind Anyway

And will never own one either, for that matter. Just when you think Shimano has over-engineered their spinning reels with WAY too many parts, Daiwa comes along and says "Hold my beer!"

They went away from their solid original LT reels, like the Ballistic LT and Procyon LT and went with this nightmare? Geez, are there enough of those springy wire retainers in it? Guaranteed at least one of them will go flying over your shoulder on removal. Or during assembly, for that matter. Not to mention what seems like 15 screws holding it together - all of different sizes of course. And don't get me started on the ridiculous Mag Seal technology, for which only Daiwa has the authentic mag oil version and refuses to sell it to anyone but their own warranty shops.

I just completely disassembled and serviced my own well proven fluke-killing Ballistic 2500LT a couple of weeks ago - and know what? I used the special "Lep Delete" technology on that magnetic nonsense to make it go bye-bye. Penn reel or Yamaha grease instead. It'll work just fine, just like in every other reel I've ever worked on.

So as far as these MQ reels go, no way, nah-ahh, no thank you Daiwa.

These reels rate high on the "Crazy/Hot" chick matrix. The better they look, the tougher it is to live with them.

If you have a few minutes to kill, watch this video. The language is foreign to me, but the work is solid.
