Took A Chance

The local waters haven't been very kind to me last few trips out, so after checking the weather before bed last nite & again in the early morning decided to head to Shinnecock. Across the western Peconic, through the canal, across Shinnecock Bay & the inlet looked better that expected. Explored the ocean a few miles east & west of the inlet looking for bunker, & found none. Headed for some deep water drops looking for Sea Bass. About 8 miles south of the inlet spotted a floating log, & got lucky putting two Mahi on ice. So far the ocean was still flat, although it was starting to get more of a roll on it, & it hadn't rained on me yet, so it was time to not push my luck with the weather & call it an early day.

Nice work, John. Mahi are delicious!!

We saw some around the pots while Fluking to the west yesterday but couldn't get them to bite. Unfortunately for us the Thunderstorms did move in around 12 noon and cut our day short. It was a very wet and bouncy ride back to Jones Inlet. Good thing we were in a solid boat with an experienced Capt., our own Lep!
