I probably watched Jaws about 100 times and never knew which character was Ben Gardiner. For years I thought all we saw of him was the head and dangling eyeball . Then I saw a documentary and finally knew what part he played. He was the guy in the small boat and said when those guys get past the rocks they'll wish their mothers never met their fathers. Funny I never realized that.
I saw a nice documentary on You Tube about Jaws and Amity Island ( Martha's Vineyard ) . It's almost identical today and things haven't changed much. Edgarstown , Martha's Vineyard.
I was 11 years old in 1975 and saw Jaws at the old movie theatre in Wantagh . The scariest part of the movie was hearing all the people in the movie theatre scream when Ben Gardiners head came out of the bottom of the boat. It's so much better watching that movie in a theatre, you don't get the same feeling watching it on TV.
I spent 2 summers out in Montauk in 1972 and 1973 and went shark fishing once. Caught 2 Blue sharks, saw the Cricket 2 and Frank Mundus coming back when we went back . Wonderful place for a kid to grow up.
