Getting your Captains License....

Congrats Capt Benny.

It does have a nice ring to it. ?

I never thought I would quit toking, so never really gave it much thought, but now that I have with no real plan to take it up again, I was thinking about taking the test.

Still just flipping thru the book. Gonna start picking your brain when I get to the "heavy" lifting. ?

Give it a shot. Maybe Mojoe can be your first mate.

I was thinking of getting my Captains license. No specific reason . I don't plan to charter my 17 foot boat. I just thought it is always good to learn. But a local course was $750. That was more than I was willing to spend since cash is tight.
I received my captains license through Mariners Learning System. It’s an online class you can take and review as many times as you like . And you take practice test as well . Was excellent learning was very thorough as well. I believe cast was. 500-600 . Good luck.

Good point!

There’s a ton of courses out there these days. I’m thinking you might be referring to the “Captain in a box” program, but correct me if I’m wrong. I know a few people who used this with great success.

I went the route I did because I needed the structure and a push to get everything done in a timely manner. This was just for the OUPV. The masters and towing endorsement were all done through the website at my own speed.

I have the same license benny is waiting on from the same school. I enjoyed the experience, didn’t find it overwhelming or too difficult. The paperwork alone was worth the price. Coast Guard is pretty strict about filling the correct paperwork and having it filled out correctly. Plus when I did it it was during the winter and helped with cabin fever.

Yes Capt Benny , you’re correct. I’ve used my license and skills from boat deliveries to private fishing charters and personal excursions.

This license is for everything else but recreational fishing. You're going to end up going broke.
Some guys kid waiting for me to give him money.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. If this doesn’t stay on track I’ll be deleting any & all of your comments. Have a great day!

Congratulations Capt. Benny. You can have fun with that ticket. Lots of folks have their boat taken to Florida in the fall and brought back up in the spring. How can you beat a Cost plus job. ?
