OK, PayPal is off my Chit List

Back in October I got scammed big time by a vendor that only accepted PayPal, should have smelled a rat, my bad. Ended up placing a $64 order twice that I instantly knew was bogus after the second shot. Immediately fired off an Email to PayPal and got the "Work it out with the vendor" return email. Try contacting, but realized I was screwed when the "vendor" was 2 different German email addresses and I never got a response from either. I decided never to use PayPal again.

Well last week I got an email from PayPal asking if I ever received these orders and, if not, would I like to file a report? I did, figured WTH, so I filed and got a return email saying they would investigate an get back to me by Feb 22, one month from the report filing day. Once again, I expected nothing was going to happen when low and behold, today I got an email saying that I would get a refund for both orders!!

So PayPal is back on the "OK, but use with extreme caution List"...

My buddy made a Paypal account to buy something on Ebay. A few months later he gets a call from Paypal asking him to make a min payment of $2000. Apperntly spmeone got hold of his PP account info and made a PP credit account and slowly started drawing cash out of it.
Paypal usually doesn't make calls for payment but they staryed because they were aware of these frudulent accxounts and this was a way to verify which was which.

He had to go to his local Precinct to file a stolen ID report and after that PP closed his fake account. ?

He was pisses @ the time he had to waste for that one.

They got me over a decade ago. Someone was using it to buy Cell phones in TX. Took me a long time to get it removed from my Credit Reports.
I was getting calls from debt agencies about it till about 5 years ago. They kept selling that false info off to other debt collecting agencies down the line.

they're all susceptible......

I've had my Amazon account hacked 4 times using both my VISA Credit & Debit Cards.

1st time was for a $3,000 purchase for an iPad & something else. Had the guys name & address because he also used my email address & I received the shipping notification with his address & name. Gave that information to both Amazon & Bank of America. They never went after the guy from what I was able to discern from a follow up call with both of them.

Just recently my Debit Card was used for 2 purchases out of Virginia Beach. Had the guy's name. Amazon was aware of the guy's fraudulent account but didn't disable the account until AFTER I called them complaining of the hack.

Real pain in the ass when this happens. Have to have all cards cancelled & reissued each time. Then go back over everything that automatically bills to those cards & change them.

I do use PayPal on eBay & Etsy. That hasn't been compromised. Yet!

I'm VERY leery of using Amazon at all for anything now & stay away from it.

I like the fraudulent alerts in the credit cards, does PayPal have alerts... cellie...

A decade ago we had a weird experience involving Pay Pal and Discover Card, someone ordering something with our info IIRC. We were notified about it by Pay Pal who noticed it did not follow our usual purchase pattern. Pay Pal canceled the deal but I definitely remember that Discover wasn't the least bit interested in going after the scammer. It seems just writing off the loss (since we escaped entirely) is "easier" and cheaper for the big banks to do than to go after the criminals.
