Your ride ?

Wondering what my fellow paddlers (and pedalers) enjoy the quiet with. While readily admitting that I go the "barebones" route when it comes to kayak fishing, and without making this a poll, what can you tell me about your "ride"? I will go first to give you an idea where I am going with this and add anything I missed, please.

Make and model: Hurricane Skimmer 128

Length and Weight: 12' 8" 50lbs with seat

Color: Bright orange

Method of propulsion: Paddle only

Usual use: mornings, locally for fluke and weaks

I consider mine bare bones with side scan, handheld vhf, two trolling roods used at same time, a box of worms, a couple of bottles of water, no tackle box just a couple of zip locks, a backup paddle as I peddle, and a boga tethered. On a Hobie Revo 16.
Only bass, blues, and Tuna.

Snuck that last pick with my Outback much shorter but turns on a dime. Never got a glimpse of whoever took this pic and sold it.

Some barebones lol ! What does that weigh ? I doubt i could ever get that up on my Ranger’s TrakRak !

Like 74 lbs without anything, 100 loaded. If not for the rips in the fall I’d be switching to a Hobie Lynx, it’s more like a surfboard on top besides the seat and drive. It weighs 45 lbs.
I use a hullavator, not really any easier then yours. It’s over rated it’s hard to get the right stance to lift even assisted by the pressurized shocks. What you have is perfect.

The 60 lb hurricane phoenix i had seemed to gain weight each summer. Not the biggest or youngest here but the ten pound drop is like night and day. I have yet to use the dolly i got last Christmas but with the reopening of a local beachi may need it in May

Perhaps you’ll venture away from one spot with wheels.

True. Going to deer hunt a few days in the month. Down to one small deer i the freezer Hopefully a few more in February on a nuisance permit. some working on my ship models, a day or two at the range. I already rearranged my surf bags and my kayak bag. I doubt I fish again until May.

We do rather well in some of March and all of April close to you before the crowds unwrap their marina barges.

I recall you were getting bass and blues by launching from Alhambra or did you sneak in at Phil Healey (Florence Ave.) Beach? I have a dry top but instead of belting my waders was looking into inexpensive dry bottoms (but with a relief zipper!)

Pants. You can get away with out the zipper using a dry pant guide type with neoprene feet. They use a cinch belt. I use them more then either of my dry suits. I think my Frog Toggs finally started to breakdown after five years.

Length and Weight: 15' 6" 70lbs with nothing on it, close to 100 loaded.

Color: Bright yellow

Method of propulsion: Paddle only

Usual use: mostly mornings, been doing a lot of trips in Mill Neck Creek and oyster bay because i can launch 100 yards from my garage. nothing keeper sized there, but plenty of short fluke, porgy, bluefish to 20" , tons of schoolies and loads of snappers in late summer. pretty quiet for a bay, you can see Osprey picking off bunker all day and occasionally the Eagles too plus all kinds of wading and diving birds and turtles too all chomping on the abundant bait.
the rest of my trips are chasing the fish around the island from Raritan bay to orient. i log an average of 150 miles a season, over 200 if i can get to more tournaments!
i like the Navionics app for recording my trips. you can zoom in and see every pass you make over a spot and its a great archive for going back year after year
