Are you really surprised. She hates this country and those that got her out do too. We've swapped "The Merchant of Death" for a women's basketball player.
The deal also leaves behind another American, Paul Whelan, who has been held in Russian prison for nearly four years.

Paul Whelan was born in Ottawa, Canada and maintains citizenship in FOUR nations: Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the U.S.A. WHY is it all up to the U.S. to secure his release from Russia? WHY doesn't Canada, the UK or Ireland negotiate his release from the Russians? And WHAT was Paul Whelan REALLY doing in Russia, considering the very many trips he had made to Russia prior to his arrest by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) for spying on December 28, 2018 in the Moscow area?

Borrowed Summary
And from all I've read the U.S. did try to include Whelan in the deal but in addition to Victor Bout - the Russians wanted Russian spy Colonel Vadim Krasikov wjho is currently serving a sentence of life in prison in Germany for the murder of a man from the republic of Georgia. A murder that took place in broad daylight in Berlin in 2019.
The state department inquired with its German counterpart as far as the feasibility of arranging the release of Kasikov - but the German government declined. The U.S. then offered other Russians in U.S. prisons, but again, the Russians rejected the deal.
