driving to / from nyc to florida on I95, i notice some strange text days later… checking and blocking the call, leads me to think thrives somehow may be monitoring internet connections from perhaps Motels, Gas Station… Lumberton N.C…

Why you should have location turned OFF for all programs, and only allow it for "when application is being used" for the apps that need it. Also make sure you're using a good VPN when you're on open WiFi like hotels...

Wrong setting, we all have unlimited Cellular Service. You want to disable "Location Services" on the individual apps, or limit them to "Only when using the App".

Yes, as you drive your cellular service provider tracks you as you go from cell tower to cell tower. If you don't want them to know as you travel, put her in Airplane Mode.

BUT, if you don't limit individual Apps from using Location Services, every App is also tracking you. So for Apps that don't need to know WTF you are, your turn it off "Location Services" in Settings. Other Apps that really need to know where your are, like Google Maps, you can set for using Location Services "Only when using the app". These steps limit your digital footprint...

Note to folks considering moving residency from a low/no tax state from a high one like NJ/NY - You may want to really be careful with your "Location Services" settings. States' tax departments have started to subpoena cell phone records and data to see if you really have been in another state for 6 months and 1 day...

Well, you might always have cell service. Up here above the Tooth Line, cell signals that can handle internet data streams are a rare treat...

When you trade one in, you use the Reset Phone To Original Factory Settings. It removes all apps and data. The techs at the store you're buying the new one for will do the transfer to your new phone, including apps, and then you do the Reset and make sure they or you, take the SIM card out.

Then your old phone is totally disconnected from you...

IMO there’s nothing ominous about your observation since all iPhones come from China.

The kid at the store sells you a new phone and directs you to a site to swap your info yourself

Yeah, that's what my last 2 "swaps" were, where the store moved all the data and handed me a box to ship the old phone to the cell provider. Only difference was a factor of 10, got $80 for my iPhone 6 and $800 for my iPhone X back in Feb.
