Excellent BOGO Deal on Penn Clash II 2500

Kind of a Big Deal - In My Mind Anyway
Staff member
This is the reel (in the 3000 size) that I chose for my blackfish jigging adventures and it's been as good as it gets for two seasons now. To get two of these for the price of one means two things to me:

1/ A chance to double up in case you need a couple for your boat, or maybe you want to split the deal with a friend.

2/ Penn is probably coming out with a Gen III version. But you can believe it won't be on a BOGO deal, that's for sure!

I like mine very much, plenty of cranking power, and pretty darn well sealed for SW work. In fact, its not a "free spinner" in the way that a Stradic turns. Rather, it cranks slightly heavier, which is a result of the extra seals that Penn uses - sort of like a Van Staal VR50 - except its waaay smoother than any VS.

The difference between the 2500 and the 3000 is the slightly deeper spool on the larger reel, which in truth is totally unneeded for blackfish jigging. Oh, and the 3000 gives you an optional EVA round knob as an option - which can easily be added to the 2500. No other difference. The standard 2500 flat knob is pretty beefy already, so you might not even want to add the round knob anyway.

I have to say, its very nice looking, in an understated way as well. Here's mine on my Grappler Type J M:

So as a public service, here's the link to the sale (also, check out the Reviews Link on that page):

Damn, was hoping the deal went across the entire line, but my beloved 4000s were not part of the BOGO deal...

just curious , which reel do you prefer for Togging the Evict or Clash

The question really isn't which is the better reel, both are very nice to use. The actual issue is that its a royal bitch to get parts out of Tsunami, which is a PITA for a reel owned by someone that does their own maintenance. I called over to Tsunami last Fall for some parts and left a voicemail, which was never returned - that says enough to make me think that customer service isn't all that important to them. I probably could have been more persistent, but why? Who needs the drama when there are perfectly fine alternatives? The parts I needed (not for my reel, rather for a friend's) were just common bearings, so I was able to get them elsewhere, but it demonstrates all I needed to know about Tsunami's after-sales responsiveness.

The Evict is a very nice piece, and a pleasure to fish. A very smooth and powerful reel, what with its stainless steel drivetrain. But, if it goes down in any way, needing parts that are only available from Tsunami, it probably has to go back to wherever the heck Tsunami is, and then you get to wait - and good luck receiving progress updates.

On the other hand Penn has always been responsive to customer issues and parts are readily available from them, as well as several B&T shops here on LI - at fairly reasonable pricing. You can even reach out to a knowledgeable Penn rep on a couple of the larger Fishing Forums - and get an answer. This demonstrates a management philosophy that "gets it."

Would I buy another Evict? Maybe, it really is a nicely engineered piece, with that rare and very smooth SS gearing. But I'd go with the Penn Clash II (or the yet to come Clash III) first. Better support and a bit better overall build quality makes it the preferred choice. And again, I do like my Evict very much - never had a single issue with it. But then, my reels get a redockulous level of maintenance attention, which from my reel repair experience, is not the case with everyone.

Did anyone get in on this BOGO deal that wants to sell a reel?
I didn’t pull the trigger on this earlier because I am at a surplus of 3k-4K spinning reels and didn’t need another one ,or two for that matter. but I bought another spinning rod?‍♂️ and would like to put something new on it.
btw…BOGO Is over
thanks Lep ,you tried?‍♂️
