Butcher Gloves

I bought a cheapo version of one of these gloves last year. I wore it on my left hand while cleaning fish and it definitely prevented a few cuts. It also allowed me to clean a little faster as there was less chance of nicking a finger.

Do the pros use them? I saw a few on Amazon from just a few dollars each to over $50.00. Do you have any recommendations for the amateur fish cutter?

It’s mandatory where I work that if you have a knive in one hand, you must have a cut glove on the other. They issue the one that are similar to the uncle ul that are shown with your link. They do work well against cutting or knicking yourself but don’t protect well from sticking the point of knive like the stainless steel. I where a latex glove underneath and over it to keep it clean as possible.

Thanks for the reply folks. The latex glove is a good idea. When mine got full of slime and guts I would just hose it off. Next time I am on Amazon I will put one on my list.

Gonna order these Thanks

I had one of these years ago, I am going to look for it. May be in garage or might have ditched it since I never used it.

Did not know they were 50 bucks.

I’ve been wearing basic knit beige gloves for years when I filet. Usually I wear a nitrile glove underneath. Never cut myself using this method. When that cotton glove gets wet it is tough to slice through. I keep my filet knives sharp, but not overly sharp. I find it hard to cut fish with an overly sharp knife. Been cutting fish this way for 18+ years.

Porgy bones can cause a very nasty infection

Chicken bones are serious infectors as well.
When I first started cutting meat for Publix SuperMarkets in Miami. I was 16 and my job was to cut chickens into parts. No cut gloves. They were packed on ice in wax coated cases.(Later) I’d cut so many chickens that at times my hand would be so sore from punctures and cold that I couldn’t grab hold of the steering wheel of my Camaro to drive home. I’d steer the car with my wrist on the top of wheel. Thank god for power steering.
