Kissena park.

I grew u p walking distance form Kissena Park and fished that lake countless times as a kid. Plenty of Catfish and Carp back then .....
Me too! Francis Lewis HS class of '73. Carpin' was gr8 there in the 60s and 70s but there were even bigger ones at Flushing Meadow. Used to ride our bikes everywhere with our 2 piece fishing rods tied to the frames. We'd even race our fishbikes at the Kissena Park Velodrome (fancy word for bike track, and its still there). Thx for the memories... Couldn't find an old Carp pic but here's a Bluefish haul from Fort Totten, also a bike ride away....

I live near queens college. I walk to kissena park just about everyday. Fishing is tough at times but when I get fish they are big.

I don't think I even owned a camera in those days...John Bowne HS, class of '68 for me.

Back then the winters were generally cold enough for the lake to freeze close to solid Dec-Feb. Played a lot of Hockey on the lake as well in those days!

I remember falling through the ice in that lake, lucky water was up to my knees. Flushing High School class of 65 for me.

Today I might sneak in an hour or two to go to Kissena park. My last trip to kissena I caught a very small largemouth and alot of bluegill and one or two pumpkinseed all on worms. I used the smaller hooks for more action.

I had a very short fishing trip at kissena park today I left the house at 6pm. I get to the lake around 640. I was using bread and I had a runoff and a bass jumped out of the water and spit the hook. I see the clouds moving in and it starts raining so I start walking to the rest area in the park and before I get there I get absolutely drenched it was a deluge. I get there and wait it out for like 10 minutes and I make my way back to the spot and I was getting hits but no takers then on my last cast I get a big runoff and I land a giant Bullhead catfish on bread. After I released the fish I went home.

The best day of freshwater fishing in my life. I arrived at kissena park at 12:50. I only had bread so I tried 4 spots nothing not a bite. I did see signs of bass. So I walked up to the bait and tackle shop got worms and started fishing as soon as I got to the spot bam. It was fighting like a carp it was pulling drag it almost took me into the trees. I tightned the drag and i was able to get it in. It was a 21 inch 5 lb bass on a whole worm. What a fight. I stayed there a few more minutes nothing. So I sight fished the same side of the lake and it was game on caught 3 more bass 3 big bluegill and a huge pumpkinseed I think this second bass was bigger than the first had a huge belly. Healthy looking bass. What an amazing day.
