Another Fine Morning

Got out yesterday to fish the ebb tide in Plum Gut, a tide I have avoided in the past. Arrived a little early to the end of the slack, not very boats around so tried a little power drifting, bumped the boat in & out of gear a few times & fish on, looked to be at the high end of the slot released at boat side. By now the tide was running & the bass liked my bucktail, ended the morning with one slot bass on ice & 5 others released.

Nice job John!

Funny Mike!

I remember running to a productive wreck 60miles off. Guaranteed Pollock slaughter.

Well, started out a slaughter but after 30minutes, pilot whales showed up. I dont know what they were doing to those Pollock but the bite shut down and never recovered that day!

Nothing to do except leave. Found some on the other spots but the first drop was the ace in the hole. Happens sometimes.

John, I meant to ask you this question the other day. I know you own a very nice Steiger Pilot house, and I believe you fish solo most of the time. Do you have a second set of controls in the cockpit?

If not, I am curious to learn how you can power drift single handed. I sure can't do it with my boat.

No second station Capt & it’s not easy, my boat is a 21’ relative short fishing deck, as long as their are not many boats close by I am able to hold the rod in one hand, sneak into the helm & pop it in & out of gear. What I don’t do is leave the helm while the boat is in gear, & once the drift gets crowded, like it usually is, then that option is off the table. Sometimes just that short in & out of gear in my 21 can generate enough momentum to make the difference.

Thanks for the confirmation, John. I just wanted to be sure I was not missing something. Under similar, low traffic situations I sometimes will give myself a bit of a "running start" but that only works if the wind vs. tide situation is not too severe.

As usual you take the safe approach to your boating/fishing activities. Kudos!
