Trump, and his MAGA base have been for years badmouthing the Biden administration for releasing monies to Iran.

Here is just a small part of what Trump is in negotiations with Iran on unfreezing money. And this is only a small part of how F’d up these negotiations are. You really can’t make this chit up.

The U.S. is reportedly considering releasing up to \(\$20\) billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for Iran relinquishing its stockpile of enriched uranium and negotiating an end to the war. [1]
The recent breakdown of funds and assets involves:

• Current Negotiations (2026): Diplomatic discussions are exploring a cash-for-uranium deal that could unfreeze up to \(\$20\) billion.
• Prior Deals (2023): The U.S. permitted Iran to access \(\$6\) billion in previously frozen assets held in South Korea. These funds were designated solely for humanitarian transactions.
• Historical Settlements: Under the 2016 Iran Nuclear Deal, the U.S. transferred \(\$1.7\) billion to Iran, which consisted of a \(\$400\) million balance from a pre-1979 Foreign Military Sales trust fund and \(\$1.3\) billion in associated interest. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Globally, Iran has an estimated \(\$100\) billion to \(\$120\) billion in foreign assets and reserves that have been locked in international banks due to U.S. and international sanctions.
